Choose among three arrangements for a fictional society with three equally sized groups. Basic liberties and institutional rights are the same under every arrangement. You do not know which group you would belong to.
Resources for the lowest, middle, and highest groups are: equal shares 6 / 6 / 6; higher total 4 / 9 / 17; higher minimum 7 / 8 / 9. Totals intentionally differ. In the third arrangement every group receives more than under equal shares.
Which arrangement would you choose?
- Equal shares: 6 / 6 / 6
- Higher total: 4 / 9 / 17
- Higher minimum: 7 / 8 / 9
